I have not been able to get this to happen on any of my machines. Could you follow the instructions on this KB article to enable error reporting (Note that this article also specifys how to disable error reporting, make sure you enable it):
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310414
Once you've enabled this, you should recieve a prompt next time WGATray.exe crashes. When given the choice to "Send this information to Microsoft", please click "send". I will be able to trace the cause of this error with the information that is sent.

Actually, in this case, there is no prompt for reporting errors when issue occurs. Error reporting is enabled by default.
What happens on my machine - there is a "stop" error message stating:
"Windows has encountered an error with application, click OK to terminate, or Cancel to debug"
Event Log: Faulting application wgatray.exe, version 1.7.18.5, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0
After terminating, there is a timed shutdown dialog and system powers down.
This is a OEM factory install in a corporate environment. The machine is fully up to date, Trend Micro Client/Server antivirus is used, system is in pristine shape otherwise.
I work for a technology consultancy which has Gold Microsoft support - however this discussion thread seems to be the best source for resolving this issue. Do you have any suggestions?
I really appreciate you investigating this issue. Thanks,

I am glad, that I am not alone. I have the same issue and kind of frustrated trying to figure out what is going on. WGATRAY.exe just clashes with similar conditions. My computer does not power down though.
This computer is part of a lab and uses the same image as rest of 25 PCs. they all have no issues, but this one. I tried to re-image a different computer, I do not receive this error, just this one. I tried unregistering dll mentioned in above posting, no change.
I even contact Microsoft and reported WGA issues, I've been bounced couple of times, received suggestions that did not work (like re-installing WGA or using system restore, which is pointless since the service crashed once computer was re-imaged - nothing to restore to) and bounced one more time to a dead end. the person who has been emailing to me is in China and it takes one email per day for her to respond and eventually she passed this trouble ticket to someone else, who never contacted me. this is an email I got from the support person: "
Since this issue is related to Domain, I have submitted a request to a support, David who is specializing in this situation to the issue.
Thanks for your time to wait for us. We will keep you updated. "
I am not sure, why she assumed it is related to 'Domain' and what domain... David, "who is specializing in this situation to the issue" never contacted me.
Anyway, i am anxious to try next suggestion, since this computer is marked down for a month now.
