System restore not working

I am running windows XP home edition and am trying to restore my computer to an access point before my computer started to have problems. I have tried running system restore several ways and always the same result. It starts fine...I have many access points, I choose one and get to the confirmation page, as soon as I click next it does nothing. It just sits there, I can go back and choose another access point and still the same thing. I never get an error message or have the computer lock up...it just sits there doing nothing after I click next. Is there any help for me or should I just reinstall windows again?
