Graphics driver issues

Question

This could be long but i like to start from the beginning of the story. feel free to skip the first paragraph or two.
It was a dark and stormy night... nah, it had been a nice day really. A mate came over cause he's heading off to Thailand in a couple of weeks (assuming the airports are open!) and wanted to know what i'd done there a little while ago. Now, at the time i didn't have a camera, my girlfriend did and we used hers all the time, so i didn't worry about it. But this meant that when I went to my computer to show him the photos of the trip, they weren't there, obviously they were on her laptop, which she'd taken with her, so i showed him a few of the shots that had been put on facebook. I was a little peeved, because she'd taken a really nice shot of me swimming with an elephant that I wanted to show him.
Anyways, later in the week, I started looking through clouds and came upon mesh and thought it'd be worth a try. I downloaded that and silverlight (light? well, silver-something...) and synced in the critical files on my computer, namely Photos, Music, and Uni files. Thought it was all well and good and I'd work out how to sync in her photo files with mine later on.
Today came the rain. I started up my computer and it opened to a mess. The aspect was i think 600x800 or something and colours were all wrong. On a 22" screen, it looked terrible. So first of all I removed Mesh and Silver-whatever-it-is, restarted, no change. Safe mode: same thing...
Hmm, I thinks. Then I tried launching a game that works on a different ratio but it wouldn't launch, citing graphics card issues. I thought Bingo! and reinstalled the graphics drivers, whereupon it all started working as normal again! Yays! So looks like something had corrupted the graphics drivers
But...reinstalled Silver-thing-amah-whatsit and restarted...ok. Then install mesh and restart...bugs out again. So I reinstall the drivers again, and finally it works! Haven't had any more issues yet, will update if that changes.
The graphics card is a 2yo asus PCI-E 7950GT and I haven't updated the drivers. PC is XP SP2, haven't updated to SP3 yet because I need to back up everything first! If that isn't a decent example of irony i don't know what is!
Any thoughts? Has anyone had similar issues with drivers or their desktop settings being changed? On a side note, am I too long-winded?Sunday, September 7, 2008 5:09 AM

Hi Andy la,
It sounds to me like you've actually hit at least a couple of known issues. First of all, with the graphics driver: We've had other reports of the driver that Live Mesh installs causing occasional problems. Second, with the recent synchronization issues (noted in the Announcements). If you wouldn't mind, it would be helpful for us to have your Live Mesh logs. Instructions for collecting logs and submitting a bug are in an Announcement at the top of the forums (there are a lot of announcements there - we'll be whittling those down as we get the synchronization issues fixed!). It would probably be best if you submitted the graphics driver bug separately from the synchronization bug.
Thanks,

ok, driver issues have gone away for the moment. now we have a bigger problem.
files are disappearing. not in the happy, magician kind of way where they come back after a swish of the wand either. some of the files i've found in my deleted items folder. no clue what they were doing there, but when i moved them back to where they were meant to be, mesh then deleted them again. i'm making changes on my files and they're getting overridden by a homicidal program. mesh said conflicts were created and i tried to use that to recover some of the files, but as soon as i moved them back to where they were, it deleted them again. the live desktop has multiple copies of some of these files but none of them are complete.
this is all uni work and i've got the current stuff backed up on my usb, half of last semester's work has left the building! this is a significant problem cause i'll need those files back soon.
somebody please help!

There seems to be an issue with the current version of the Client. Nadia made a post in the announcements section! Im thinking that you should wait for the fix and if it keeps on happening after then reply here and make a bug report.
It would be good if the Mesh developers had something to add...Sunday, September 7, 2008 9:20 PM -
I guess being a weekend and all...
Here's a good question: is it a good thing that I'm not alone in this?

Sadly, stuff like this is never a good thing. If I hadn't taken a look at the Announcements this morning, I'd have never noticed the note about the problems. Stuff like that needs to get pushed out as an email (he said more for the lurkers who might be able to suggest this within MS). similar to the way I get notified about threads marked with "Alert Me". Can I "Alert Me" the Announcements section??As for long-winded - for a problem report, I found your level of detail great, and the tone delightful. It works alright for me!
