Exam 70-680: Which version of IE for Win 7? RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hi Folks,

Microsoft has just released Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7, and since Microsoft likes to test on the latest technology, some people have been asking which version of Internet Explorer will be tested on the 70-680 exam.

I received the following response from the Microsoft Certification Guidance Team:

"Exam 70-680 is for Windows 7 and is with Internet Explorer 8."

Should you have any questions on this, you may contact the Certification Guidance Team at mslrncgt@microsoft.com.

  • Microsoft tests Windows 7 with the default technology involved. However, a minor update may be present. But note that IE 10 will not be a part of the testing as it is a default part of Windows 8.

Note that the exam 70-680 (Windows 7 certifications) will expire by Jan 31 2014 and exams/certifications related to Windows 8 is currently available.

Just noticed your commend Balaji, and I wanted to clarify in this thread that the Windows 7 exam 70-680 does not expire on Jan 31, 2014.

    MCTS:

    • When you study a single exam (70-680 Windows 7, Configuring) you'll be awarded the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certificate.
    • When you study a single exam (70-681 Windows 7 and Office 2010, Deploying) you'll be awarded the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certificate. This Exam, and therefore the related MCTS certificate, will be retired on July 31, 2013)

    MCITP and MCSA:

    • The MCITP certifications are retiring and are being directly replaced with the MCSA certificate.
    • Presently, when you study an additional exam (70-685 Windows 7, Enterprise Desktop Support Technician or 70-686 Windows 7, Enterprise Desktop Administrator) there is a transitional arrangement whereby you'll be awarded both the older style Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) certificate and the newer style Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) certificate. Both certificates will be awarded until Jan 31, 2014.
    • After Jan 31, 2014 the MCITP will be retired and only the MCSA will be awarded.

    Therefore:

    The following certificate will continue:

    • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) Windows 7, Configuration (awarded by passing exam 70-680)

The following exam and certificate will retire on July 31, 2013

    • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist MCTS: Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010, Deployment  (awarded by passing exam 70-681)

The following certifications will be retired on Jan 31, 2014

The following certification is presently awarded and will continue after Jan 31, 2014:

  • Hi DataCruncher,

You are absolutely right. The 70-680 exam does not retire on January 31, 2014. Somehow I overlooked Balaji's post above, and therefore I didn't catch the error about the retirement date which could have misled many people.

Thanks for your vigilance. I voted your post as helpful.
