"Insert" folder and sync problem RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I recently started syncing my documents folder with my laptop via Live Mesh 2011. I sync with other computers and all if fine on those. However, on my laptop there were 38 files that never synced, so I looked into it. The files were all part of a folder called "My Stationery" located in "My Documents". This folder synced fine on my other computers.

This folder did not exist on my laptop, and I have had trouble with Live Mesh and hidden folders in the passed, so I turned on hidden folder visibility, but the folder was not hidden either. This is where things get interesting. I then tried to copy and paste the path into an Explorer window (C:\Users\{UserName}\Documents\My Stationery). A very interesting thing happened, instead of complaining that the directory did not exist, I was taken to the folder "(C:\Users\{UserName}\Documents\Insert", which contained all the files that "My Stationary" should have contained.

I have no idea why a path that by all accounts does not exist would take me to a different folder. I don't know if this issue was caused by Live Mesh, or if this issue is what is keeping Live Mesh from syncing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    *UPDATE*

When I viewed the properties of the "Insert" folder and looked at the advanced security page it listed the object name as "My Stationary" even though it appeared in explorer as "Insert". I renamed the directory from "Insert" to "My Stationary" and that seems to have resolved the sync issue. However, I still have no idea how a folder can have one name in explorer and a different object name in the advanced security settings, or how this discrepancy came about.

  • By the way, you don't mention the OS involved.
