Hello Lisauk,
Please follow the steps outlined below as it could either resolve your issue or, if need be, provide us with additional information to determine the cause of this issue.1. Ensure you log onto the computer experiencing the issue with “Administrator” rights.
2. Next we would like to confirm that you are running the most current version of the Genuine Advantage control on your computer. In order to do this please follow the below link and choose the “Validate Office” option.
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine
If the above steps did not resolve your issue lets continue with the steps below.
If you could also please follow the steps outlined below, the diagnostics Web Site will attempt to resolve the validation errors you are experiencing with Office.
http://www.microsoft.com/Genuine/diag/RunDiags.aspx?displayLang=en
Next follow the on-screen prompts to resolve the issue if any of the checks at the above site fail. If, after attempting to resolve the issue as per the instructions on the above site fails, please refer to the link below and run the MGA Diagnostics tool:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012
You will be prompted to either “Run” or “Save” the tool. Choose to “Run” the tool and follow the on-screen prompts. You will receive an “Internet Explorer-Security Warning” dialog box for the “Windows Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool”; you must choose to “Run” this tool when prompted.
Once you are presented with the Diagnostics tool choose “Continue” to run the diagnostic report. If the “RESOLVE” button is available after running the diagnostics, please click “RESOLVE” to allow the diagnostic tool to attempt a repair.
1. After running the MGA Diagnostic tool, click on the “Windows” tab and then click on “Copy”.
2. Please return to this post and “Paste” the results here for additional review.
Step 2 is to look on the computer itself, in the documentation you received with the computer or with your retail purchase of Windows to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticity (COA). If you have one, tell us about the COA. Tell us:
1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center, or another version of Windows?
2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
4. DO NOT post the Product Key.
Not sure what to look for? See this page for reference: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/coa.mspx
NOTE: The data collected with the Genuine Diagnostics Tool does NOT contain any information that can personally identify you and can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted.
Stephen

Hello LisaUK,
Right now, your Packard Bell computer has a Volume Licensing edition of XP Pro installed (Line 10), and that installation was done with a now-blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK) (Line 2). VLKs are blocked by Microsoft at the request of the original keyholder for such reasons as the key was lost, stolen, compromised, misused, or expired. Also, MS may have blocked the key if it notices a pattern of misuse, ie, more installations of XP using that key than authorized.
The particular Product Key used to install XP, which ends in 3R89F-D2KXW-VPK3J, is a widely pirated key, and judging from the posts in this forum, Microsoft began blocking the Product Key about 6-7 weeks ago to try to curb its use, which probably explains why it was showing as Genuine up until recently. As a rule, VL editions of XP should not be sold to individual consumers. Businesses, schools and gov'ts normally use VL editions for flexibility in installing many computers. Additionally, VL editions are Upgrade licenses ONLY, and therfore cannot be used as the primary or base license for a computer.
Quite often this situation is the result of untrained computer repair personnel at shops using downloaded copies of XP Pro to repair computers that never came with XP Pro. If you have ever taken your computer to a repair shop, or if a well-meaning friend ever helped you fix the computer, then this is the likely source of the problem.
This is why you were seeing the "software counterfeiting" messages on your computer, because the current installation of XP is an unauthorized installation.Your Packard Bell computer did NOT come brand new from Packard Bell with this installation of XP Pro using the Volume Licensing Key. If you look on the computer you will see a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) that tells you what version and edition of Windows came with the computer. If the CoA says that XP Pro came with the computer, then you may be able to use the Product Key Updater Utility http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=45668 to "genuine-ize" the XP Pro installation now on the computer. It is much more likely that your PB computer came with XP Home or Media Center Edition, and if so, the Key Updater will not work.
So if the CoA is NOT for XP Pro, the best course of action right now is to acquire a set of Recovery CDs from Packard Bell, then backup and offload your data for safekeeping, then use the Recovery CDs to cleanly install the right XP onto your computer. You also have a problem with Office Pro 2003. See the snippet below:
OGA Data-->
Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2
Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 114 Blocked VLK 2
OGA Version: Registered, 1.7.111.0
Signed By: Microsoft
Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-230-1
Your installation of Office 2003 Professional is also nongenuine as it too is a Volume Licensing edition that was installed with a blocked Volume Licensing Key.
The Office situation is very similar to your Windows situation, in fact I might bet that both were installed at the same time by the same "shop" person.
I am not that familiar with Packard Bell computers as sold in the UK, but I understand that it is a "value-oriented" computer line, so I would say that it is unlikely that it would have come from the factory with a perpetual license for Microsoft Office (it may have come with a Trial Version that you would eventually have to purchase). However, if it did come with Office, just use the Office CDs that came with the computer to put the licensed copy of Office back on the computer after uninstalling the nongenuine installation.
If the computer did not come from Packard Bell with a genuine copy of office and if you want or need Office on this computer, then please uninstall the nongenuine copy and purchase a genuine full retail copy from a trusted local or online store, or participate in the Office Genuine Offer as described in the FAQ: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EONAC
Good Luck!

yes i believe it was a well meaning friend of my daughters that caused the problem & yes my comp originally was purchased with vista but i had problems with it , i still have the original vista software but dont know if it will work now as i validated that at the time but thanks for all your help best wishes lisaWednesday, April 22, 2009 5:00 PM -
Hi LisaUK,
You would want to backup and offload any valuable data that you do not want to lose, then use the Packard Bell supplied recovery solution to pur Vista Home Premium back onto the computer. There is nothing that you have mentioned that would cause the Vista installation to not be Genuine and Valid once put back onto your PB computer.
Because of changes to the Windows architecture for security reasons, Vista had to make changes that left some old hardware and software behind. In my experience, people who are unhappy with Vista are usually having problems trying to get older peripherals or software to work on Vista, or are trying to get Vista to run on an underpowered computer.
So in order to have success with Vista, you may have to upgrade some peripherals or software to Vista compatible versions. As far as power goes, Vista is very sensitive to the power of the graphics subsystem. Your PB computer, Imedia J2589, comes with 1 GB of system RAM and uses an ATI radeon X1650SE PCI Express video card. You should boost your RAM up to at least 2GB. The video card is OK, but replacing this card with a more powerful card and boosting your RAM would significantly speed up the computer IMO. Not sure about UK prices, but in the USA a higher performance vid card can be mail-ordered for less than $100 and RAM can be bought on sale for less than $30.
Good Luck!

Dan i just found this whilst searching for packard bell recovery disc would it work do you think ?thanks for all your help lisa
Downloads File Category: Recovery Operating System: OS independent File Title: Recovery Boot Disk Creator File Version: 1.6 File Date: 05-08-2005 15:08:51 File Size: 2700360 Bytes
Technical Note: This Setup will create a bootable Recovery CD automatically.
The bootdisk that will be created can be used on all Packard Bell systems shipped since July 1999.
Filename Install Note Download Download and doubleclick the file. You will require one CD-R (or CD-RW) disc. A CD-RW disc can be used for other purposes afterwards, a CD-R can only be used once. Wednesday, April 22, 2009 6:31 PM -
Hi LisaUK,
This may BOOT (start) the computer into an ancient version of DOS, but this is NOT a Packard Bell Recovery disc that will put Vista back onto your computer.
Two dead give-aways:
1. File size is 2.7 megabytes. A Recovery DVD for Vista is going to be 2-3 Gigabytes.
2. File date is May 8, 2005 (or maybe August 5, 2005!!!). Vista was not released on consumer computers until January 2007.
Not sure if your PB came with a Recovery disc, but if not or if you have lost it, I would URGE you to contact PB support to see if you can order another one. DO NOT use any kind of downloaded disc that claims to be a PB recovery disc--the danger of embedded malware is too great.
