Migration from 3.0 to 4.0

Question
-
I am running Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0, and I want to upgrade it to 4.0.
I have the posibility of create an image of the server disk, and I know that it should avoid a lot of migration problems. But, what happens with AD during migrationg?.
Can I just make a disk backup(crm server) and a database backup(sql server) and then run the upgrade? In that case, if the migration fails and I recover the the disk and database backups, is crm 3.0 going to be alive? I don´t know what happens with AD during migration progress, is it going to be the same?
Regards,
I hope you can help me!Tuesday, January 12, 2010 7:10 PM

My understanding, which isn't deep, is that while things get added to AD, nothing gets taken away so it should be fine.

I am afraid that something in the AD could get modified during upgrade and then I could never go back!Tuesday, January 12, 2010 7:57 PM

Yes, it will be fine. You will be able to do a roll back.
Before you will start upgrade check if you don't have own reports and custom applications (callouts) because they will not be upgraded and may not be working.
You can find a section about Upgrade in Planning document (implementation guide - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1ceb5e01-de9f-48c0-8ce2-51633ebf4714&displaylang=en )
