File Transfer Rate 60KBps Where max allowed 8KBPS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Guys This is a very odd thing that i discovered...

I m using TATA 64kbps unlimited plan.. So my Max download speed is 8kbps.. and that is what i get.. but recently when i was sharing a file with my friend through Yahoo and Gtalk.. my upload and download speed for both my friend and for me was around 60kbps.. i was astonished and i checked it for 2-3 days continuosly..

i had shared file of 40 mb in 13 min.. now my frnd uses the same plan.. one more friend of mine is using the same plan but this does not work with him.. its only between me n my 1st friend...

can someone explain watz going on here???

What i can observe from above network config is that Mr. Varun & Mr. Mehul are connected to the same server from which u r getting your internet connection whereas Mr. Sanket is not, it may be that u all have taken connection from the same ISP and even in the same area but all of your servers are not same...

And also your max download speed will be 8KBps NOT 8Kbps

Remember b is BITS and B is Bytes. Andwhen u want your max download speed in KBps just devide the speed given to u in kbps by 8 and u will get your max download speed.

If u find my reply appropriate then pls mark it as an answer.

  • Hey  Varun,

Check that you and mehul are there on the same line, means sharing same DNS Server. Also, both of you have PPPoE connection. Check that Sanket has LAN Connection, and a different DNS Server.

Now whenever you share your files through messengers, both the machines become peer for the same network. That's why, you are getting this much speed.

    1) y do the speed limit to 50 to 60 kbps

    2) y is it only between 2 of us..

The KBps Kbps info was good but irrelevent over here.... anyways thanks for the piece of information.. i was unaware of it...

I am still not able to understand how is it happening???

Thankz for the concern but i did my homework before.. i had tested it for 3 days.. and the speed is normal at all the other places except for between this two p2p transfer.. i also did checked it by transfering the files using both yahoo and google messanger..

i get the high speed at both messanger...

Now many people have answered the query i think that due to the same DNS Server its happening...

But now what i want to know is that can we use it to tweak the speed somehow.. of use it for our benefit.. the problem is soved but still we dont know how to use it for our benefit..
