Installing OneCare on a new computer RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been trying to install onecare on a new computer with Vista Home Premium.  I keep getting an error ID: 0020-80070643.  I have followed all of the instructions to uninstall Windows Defender but all I get is a message that says "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed.  This happened after I could not find the program in the control panel and tried manually uninstall the program using the commands given in the help information. My computer then restarts and I am back to the same place.  My computer also has Norton security installed.

  • The error message 0020-80070643 indicates a damaged installation of Windows Defender. I don't know how to reinstall Defender in Vista other than a repair install of the operating system. Defender should not be uninstalled from Vista, One Care will disable Defender during install. You must also uninstall Norton Internet Security before installing One Care.
