Windows 7 Professional 'not genuine' error code 0x8004fe21 RRS feed

  • Two months ago, my laptops hard drive (came with Windows Vista, then upgraded to Windows 7 Professional) crashed. I had the hard drive replaced and re-installed the same copy of Windows 7 Professional on the new hard drive. I didn't get those "Windows is not genuine" messages until the end of last week. At the same time, "Windows update" seems to have failed as well. I clicked on "resolve now" on the window, downloaded the program but it wouldn't install. I finally ran diagnostics to find this:

  • The report looks to have been edited - the error codes are missing from teh file mismatches.

    The problem lies with the file integrity.
    This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -  

    Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers
    try downloading and installing them from here - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?ProductID=2101&DwnldID=20624 

    Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

  • Good - the system now shows as being genuine.

    As far as Windows Updates is concerned, try this

    Open Windows Update

    Click on Change Settings

    Change the setting to Never download....

    click OK, and close Windows Update

    Now re-open WIndows Update, and change the settings back to your preference.

    Click OK, and then scan for updates.

    I've done everything that you mentioned above. I don't know if it fixed the problem, but so far none of the "Windows is not genuine" windows are popping up. However, my Windows update is still not working. So I ran another diagnostics report and here it is:
