Three Drives & backing up? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am a novice and basic user, I have a 40gig Dell 1200 Inspiron laptop(yes I know) with 1.25gig RAM, and its full and struggling.

I want to use my new Seagate portable drive to act as regular file storage for my media files, BUT that means I have no backup... so I'm planning to run file backup to another larger Ext desktop drive, every week or so.

My question is that all the info in the help sections and on the Net, mainly discuss backing up between 2 drives. So... can I drag my existing files to my portable, then save new data to that drive in the future, then back that up to the desktop drive using say Synctoy, as an example?

(I also use i-Tunes, I assume I simply tell i-Tuneswhere to look for the music files once I move them?)

I hope that makes sense, could any one enlighten me to the right process please?

    Thanks... Chris

  • You can connect 2 external drives to your laptop and use SyncToy to copy from one external drive to the other.

Just put the files on the drives as you plan to use them and configure SyncToy to Echo the files one way to your backup.
