I do not understand the problem, or how it could possibly have gone wrong, but here goes:
I installed my copy of vista business onto my pc, then later changed the motherboard, and had to reinstall.
Obviously as there was a significant hardware change, when trying to activate vista for the 2nd time, it said my key is in use.
I suppose that is technically true but I've had the same problem with windows xp but did the phone activation and it was fine.
I followed the automated phone activation stuff, answered all the right questions about whether this is my only pc (YES), have i changed significant amounts of hardware (YES), etc, and successfully activated vista, yet it is telling me that I still have to activate it?
Why?!? Is it retarded? It told me a few days beforehand it was successfully activated, and now its threatening to stop windows working fine even though I have done nothing wrong. What gives???
The same kind of thing happened with windows XP ages ago and I had to do a phone activation about 5-6 times then windows finally took the hint. Do I have to do this same *** again and again for vista too?
