Windows 7 Home Premium + Office 2007 Professional Plus + Activation Results in Reduced Functionality - Please Help. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi There,

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium,  and when I try to activate Office 2007 Professional Plus, it supposedly activates, but then evering gets locked down to Reduced Functionality Mode, so when I try to type in Word 2007, I obviousely get the

"This modification is not allowed because the selection is locked"

message at the bottom. I have googled and tried all the common 'solutions' such as removing the odat2.dat file, updating Office to SP2 (and without). Registry Edits. Registry Cleans. Virus Scans. Im beginning to think that maybe the key has been blacklisted.

Could you please check the validity of my Product Key?

Its a Volume License 'Microsoft South African Schools Agreement' Key.

Not sure whether i should post the last digits of the key here.

    Help would be much appreciated.

Here is the output of my MGATool:

  • Hello Fritz Bester,

The error message you posted is not an error message generated by Office Genuine Advantage.

Volume licensing editions of Office designed for larger organizations have document protection features.  Have you eliminated the possibility that ths problem stems from document protection being enabled?

See this article for example:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/818852

    ***

If it turns out that document protection is not the issue, then the other possibility is that there is something wrong with the installation's activation status.

The mgadiag report does say that it is activated and Genuine:

We can try to deactivate and then reactivate.

First, contact your organization's support staff for assistance and to get the organization's Product Key for Office--you will need it for re-activating Office.

Run the MS FixIT utility in the Method 1 sction of this MS KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919895/ to remove the Office license file and thus deactivate Office.

Restart and then open up Word, which should then open the Activation Wizard.  Enter the product key and activate online normally.  Once activated, restart, then go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button.  Once validated, try to use Office normally.

Post back to let us know how you do.
