Hello Arvidian,
Who is the manufacturer of your computer? Was your computer custom built by a local business? Please locate the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) which should be on your computer. Please visit http://www.howtotell.com and you can see examples. If your computer was built by a major manufacturer then you need to contact their Technical Support and request them to provide you with a Recovery Software Media disc based on the make and model you own.
Another option please contact the Microsoft Supplemental Team and ask how you may replace Microsoft Software.See the following Knowledge Base (KB) article:
KB326246 - How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and product upgrades, and replace product manuals

If you have OEM Media, please contact your respective OEM’s website for Recovery information.

You need to order a new CD from Microsoft's replacements Parts number (1-800-360-7561) and tell them your problem. Not that you need a proof of purchase. Internet copies could have viruses or spyware on it. To find out the edition of XP you have, look on the back of the manual, on your VL agreement, or on you COAFriday, October 24, 2008 12:52 AM
