Remote Desktop Icons Missing RRS feed

  • Question

  • I suspect this is a Vista issue but I'm going to ask it anyway...

When I remote to my Vista Ult. 64 machine via WHS the login is successful however when the desktop screen appears (black background of course) all the icons are missing. All that's there is an empty desktop.

I re-installed Vista recently and this did not happen before the re-load.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Please try installing another version (older or newer) of the graphics driver or (temporarily) uninstall graphics driver and use Windows builting VGA driver. Please note some graphics drivers need special uninstall programs from the manufacturer to be completely removed.

Do you get normal desktop if you connect using remote desktop (Start, Run, type mstsc.exe, OK) from another client computer in your network?

  • I tried to remote in from another computer on my home network last night and got the same result.

Tonight I'll try installing a different driver for my graphics card (EVGA GTX280) and see if that solves the problem. I'll let you know.
