Similar things happens to me when i try to edit my posts but i usually cancel the messed up edit and try again and it usually clears up. I find this forum engine to be a bit flaky especially the code block feature. Adding source code snippets and have it come out decent the first time is a challenge for me. I have used "code blocks" on many a forum/blogs and the quality of the one on social.msdn is extremely lacking in comparison especially for such a substantial site.

  • Edits are flaky for sure. If people have suggestions of other code colorizers that enable the colorization and structure, with a better way to edit, point me to them and I'll take a look.

[picture of a page formatted with incomplete CSS]

Using which browser?    FWIW  I can see stuff like this (or worse) on the new Hotmail web interface by using IE8's View, Style, No Style  command (Alt-V,y,N).   BTW using its  Developer Tools  Disable All CSS command  (Alt-o,D Alt-s,C) provides a more complete view of the page without its formatting if that is what is desired.

Also, did you try to look at your Edit using the HTML button?   The level of nesting implied by that Path: at the bottom makes it understandable if it is just a case of the Editor reaching its limits and just throwing up its hands and saying (figuratively <w>)  "WTH?"

FWIW  there have been a few times that I have had to use a forum editor's HTML view to simplify some pretty grotesque quoting, usually caused because the OP had inserted some from an external source (e.g. probably Office Word)...

Actually I suppose in this case you could try doing what those other posters have done:  just collect all the HTML that you were given, take it to a more capable editor, fix it up with that, and then bring that HTML source back to replace the whole thing.   I haven??t tried that myself (yet).   ; )

    Good luck

    Brent,

IMHO SyntaxHighlighter is an exceptional code formatter.

It's the default highlighter in WordPress and i also use it for BlogEngine.Net sites

It can also be used for offline composition with SyntaxHighlighter for Windows Live Writer and PreCode Snippet Manger
