Windows 7, build 7600 not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have had this computer for probably a year or two now. Came preloaded with Windows (OEM). So, no product key. Did a system restore back to three days ago, thinking that I might have deleted a registry value that Windows 7 needed (was removing a virus). Here's the data I have:

Also, sfc /scannow did not find any integrity violations.

Another edit: I saw in another post about the product key being on the side of my PC. Found it, decided I'd try and activate it that way.

I do not have the option to. I think I'm looking at the right part because the instructions were pretty straight forward. I uploaded a screenshot to photobucket to verify.

Alternate steps to change the product key

    1) Click the Start button

    2) Type: slui.exe 3 and hit the Enter key

    3) Type in the 25-character Product Key from the COA label affixed to your computer

    4) Click the Next button.

    5) You will be asked if want to Activate, click OK

    6) It will attempt to Activate by the internet and may return an Invalid Key error (this is OK, continue to step 7)

    7) Click the Start button

    8) Type: slui.exe 4 and hit the Enter key

    9) Select your location in the drop down menu and click the Next button

    10) The next screen provides the number to call to Activate by Phone.  [You may have to hold and speak with a Microsoft product activation specialist]

  • When I went to the slui.exe 4, it just opened a window that pretty much said your activation isn't valid. Gave me a link to go back online to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/ and resolved the issue. It literally fixed itself. I had already done the validate step though. Not sure why it did this. I guess if it gives me the message again I'll have to do the activate by phone option.

  • You should be OK now.  There may have been some corrupt files that were automatically corrected.  Feel free to run the   Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostics Tool again and post the results for a final review.
