CRM Deployment Server 2008 w/ SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I will be installing CRM into my current enviornment which has the following:

CRM Server - Windows Server 2008
    SQL Server 2005

In about a month or two (or more) the current SQL Server envionrment will migrate to Server 2008. What kind of issues or what should I expect when the time comes to move the installation from a SQL Server 2005 to the SQL Server 2008 platform?

    Thanks

  • If you make sure that you install the setup updates at the beginning of the installation, the migration should be no problem.

  • I think most have found upgrading from SQL 2005 to 2008 to be fairly straightforward.  Of course, you'll want to backup your database and have a 'rollback' plan in the event that something doesn't go as expected.  As long as your database does not have unsupported changes, you should be in good shape.  Just follow the upgrade instructions carefully and test the process in a test enviroment before performing on production.

  • Thanks for the response, follow up question.

If the installation of CRM 4.0 in a Server 2008 front end and datatbase enviornment pulls updates for Server 2008. Will my upgrade also make the necessary changes to the CRM Server install for a new SQL Server 2008 back end?
