After sys-disk failure rebuild of old shares does not happen during "Server Reinstall" RRS feed

  • Question

  • I did not know that HS-Server recovery after a crash can be so hard :-(

I conquered the typical things like (after hours of trying things which were not documented):
    - "reinstall option" does not appear
    - look for the right ide-channel order (recable several times)
    - ...

Install once with only one drive - the new one -, then twice with all other drives (not integrated - as supposed)
finally i got the option, setup did run fine with "reinstall option", server is up again
    BUT
during the reinstallation the old shares and backups of home computers are not rebuild again.

The data is there on the surviving disks, so only the data from the broken system disk is gone.
But now i have the issue how to restore the previous state regarding shares and backups.
i understood this should be ok after reinstall ???
The old disks are not touched yet by some other recovery tests.

The only point i see could be blocking me from full data restore is:
i used instead of a 1,5TB disk for the system disk a 1T disk.

Can this be the reason for reinstall not restoring the previous shares and backups as expected?

    Any ideas or tips?

    Thx - Alex

    Update: .....
now i am going for a bigger new sys-drive to see if that help to supports to make the reintegration work.

I doubt that will help.  You should have done the Server Reinstallation first (not a New Installation, then a Server Reinstallation) because you are now "recovering" an installation that had just the one drive (not all of the drives).  You're probably going to have to copy the data to the shares manually now.

  • The bigger disk did not help either.!!! :-(

Server Reinstallation first was not possible as the system drive failed.
And if there is no system disk with some sort of system then the DVD-Setup does not give the re-install-option, but only new-installation. But this one would erase all data.
Therefor i did set up just on disk and booted again from the DVD where the setup had the reinstall option activated.
In summary this still sucks - and i will have to start copying files from here to there.

The only one thing left - why the reintegration does not work is that no network-card is recognized.

And so after install i can not access the shares. So i assume that during install acessing shares is not possible too and therefor the reintegration fails.
I think i will go now for the copying of files.
but it would be good to know for the "next" time when this happens evtl. again.

Currently i have no idea why with a fresh empty system disk the reintegration does not work.

    not good at all------
