dual lan ports RRS feed

  • Question

  • My whs has been up and running for quite some time on an asus a8nsli-premium (former game machine board with passive cooling and 8 sata ports) and does so very well. This board has dual gbe lan ports. Does anyone know is WHS will use them both if they are both enabled and plugged into my switch? I guess I could do an A-B test with two concurrent file copies to different client machines and see if the second port affords a faster file transfer. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this knows if its supported.

  • Windows Home Server doesn't support multi-homed configurations, where there are two active and separate network connections. If your hardware and drivers support it, you may be able to team the two NICs so that they appear to the operating system as a single connection. I don't think you'll see significantly improved network performance as a result, though.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
