Crashed Computer RRS feed

  • Question

  • My PC has recently crashed and is now giving me a Windows error.  I have a copy of XP but it isn't taking.  The error message that I get at start up is:

Windows could not start because the following file is mising or corrupt:

    <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.

Would appreciate any help I can get.  I don't have the money to get this fixed professionally.

  • Hi,

boot from XP installation CD, go to recovery console, log in with administrator password and call

    chkdsk c: /r

    Then exit.

while the PC reboots take the CD out. Be happy if your PC boots. :-)
