windows 7 validation for a different laptop RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm using a laptop made for windows vista, so a month ago I installed windows 7 to upgrade, the windows 7 I'm using is genuine, but it was meant for another laptop which was stolen and I still have the original disks.

The win 7 disk is mine and it is an original, purchased legally, but don't have the validation key, as it was on the computer that was stolen.

Is there anyway Microsoft can help me validate this product?

  • If the discs you have is for an OEM version of Windows, you cannot use that disc to install Windows on a different PC.  The license is permanently tied to the original PC and cannot be used or transferred to a different PC.
