Selection criteria

  On the search page it is stated that one is searching through 15,759,480 publications and 10,599,182 authors. I wonder: what are the selection criteria for inclusion and what kinds of quality control is performed to demarcata scientific from non-scientific publications. I see references to a number of methodology papers about how Academic Search ranks publications, but no information about the selection processes.
