Cannot change display name when trying to edit my profile RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm trying to change my display name by editing my profile here, but keep getting an error message saying that the name I have entered is already taken.

I've gone to the "Browse Forums Users" and tried to search for a user by the display name that I tried to change to. But the search result was empty. So, it doesn't look like that there is any Forum user with that particular name. In that case, why am I getting the error message?

This is not a huge issue for me and I had noticed this issue for quite a long time. But I'm curious to know where does this profile check whether the selected name is unique or not?

  • Hi,

Thank you for your post! The only reason for denial is the display name is taken by other user. However, please provide us the display name you want, so that we can investigate the this issue further.

    Have a great day!

  • Hi Shrikant,

Thanks for your reply. I was trying to set my display name to "Pman", but was getting the denial. I guess it's probably taken already, but when I was searching in "Browse Forum Users", I couldn't find anyone with that name. That's what got me curious :)

  • Hi,

We have verified this issue and user with Pman display name already exists. You can check this with link.

    Hope this clears your doubt.

  • Great!!! Thanks Shrikant for looking into this. I wonder why the profile didn't show up when searching from "Browse Forum Users" page. Anyways, thanks for confirming this.
