Windows Media Player 11 Codec

Question
-
To Technical Support:
I recently installed Windows Media Player 11 on my laptop which has Windows XP. The music plays fine. However, I noticed on k2demo288.asf that the video portion was not correct.
I then downloaded the Windows XP codec installation package from Microsoft’s website:
www.
microsoft.com
/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=507
In attempting to install it, though, I got the following error message:
******************************************************************
Windows Media Player 10
This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows.
******************************************************************
I know there are third party websites that advertise codecs. However, I was already hacked after downloading software from cnet. ( I ended up having to reformat two hard drives) I check scamadviser.com for safe websites but even when one seems safe my anti-virus software has alerted me that there is a problem with the download.
I would really appreciate it if Microsoft would put an additional codec for Windows Media Player 11 and Windows XP. I can’t uninstall WMP 11 and go back to an earlier version.
Thanks,
Robin Rembish
PS: I know Microsoft isn’t supporting XP anymore but if Microsoft can supply the Windows Media player download, why not the codec. Please help.

Hello,
I'd ask in the Music, Photos, and Video forum on Microsoft Community.
You could also ask in the Windows XP forum on Microsoft Community.
Windows XP is no longer supported, but there is a thriving volunteer community there. As the Microsoft Community is on a different platform, we cannot move the question for you.Once there, click on Participate near the top of the screen, and select 'Ask a Question' or 'Start a Discussion'
