Need Backup Replacement since Windowns Live OneCare is being obsoleted RRS feed

  • Question

  •  Microsoft is discontinuing OneCare and is pointing me to Microsoft Security Essentials.  The good news is that Microsoft Security Essentials is free.  The bad news is that it appears that Microsoft Security Essentials does not provide a backup/restore solution.  Is this correct?  If so, what product should I consider as my new backup solution?

Answers

  • Yes, you are correct. MSE does not include backup.

Depending on your version of Windows, you may already have a decent basic backup program as part of Windows. With Windows 7 you'll have the best experience and with XP the most minimal experience.

There are many 3rd party backup solutions available. I have not tried this one, but it is free and looks pretty good: http://www.todo-backup.com/

I have used Acronis True Image - www.acronis.com
