  • You can think what you want but connectors are really hardware. The software for the drive is in the hardware and yes also in the BIOS but that is something which is not important for converting. It is just there as IDE and SATA and is used.

Not for you but for others.

    SATA

    IDE

  • I am talking about BIOS, i think this is software

If you'd researched about the differences then you would'nt think this is software or BIOS issue. I believe it to less than 2 minutes to search and find/read the differences using a search engine.

Google search results for "What's the difference between IDE and SATA hard drives?"

Your question is like asking how to convert fiber optic cable into copper cable. Or how to convert a V8 engine into a Wankel engine.

You really need to learn something about the hardware you think you want to alter before you think you can alter it somehow with software. And don't guess about BIOS or this or that.

Also if you plan to change to a new drive then an SDD would probably be the way to go if you can afford it and if your computer supports it. Much faster access times.

SSD vs. HDD: What's the Difference?

    SDD versus HDD access speeds

    "SSDs are Faster

SSDs can have 100 times greater performance, almost instantaneous data access, quicker boot ups,  faster file transfers, and an overall snappier computing experience than hard drives. HDDs can only access the data faster the closer it is from the read write heads, while all parts of the SSD can be accessed at once."

  • I don't know if there is a converter but for sure not software.

    Try the Microsoft answer forums.

Although your question is not even software but hardware.

  • Hi,

As has been pointed out, you can not convert an IDE hard drive to an SATA hard drive. Your computer may have an IDE, SATA, or maybe plugs for both types of drives on the motherboard depending on the age of it. If you have both types of plugs and you have an IDE hard drive then you would need to buy an SATA hard drive to install in it.

Most newer computers will detect the hard drives and CD/DVD Rom drives that are connected so, the only thing you might need to do in the BIOS is to set the order in which the computer checks the drives for the operating system when it is starting up. That is only if you have more than one hard drive that you would need to set any of that.

Usually the settings in the BIOS are set to check the CD/DVD Rom drive first and then the first hard drive.  8)

If you say it can`t be done then i`ll try it
