Project Plan Throws Error - VS403309: Query WIQL text length exceeded the limit. It should contain no more than 32000 characters. RRS feed

  • Question

  • My team has a Master Project Work Plan that we Refresh and Publish with a Project in VSTS. Just today, we added work items, published, and closed the MS Project Work Plan. Later, when we opened and tried to refresh from VSTS, we received the following error -

VS403309: Query WIQL text length exceeded the limit. It should contain no more than 32000 characters.

The query upon which the Work Plan is based opens in Excel, and throws not errors in Visual Studio when one runs the query. It's critical that we be able to continue using the MS Project output, as many of the dependencies are managed therein.

Any guidance on resolving the error would be greatly appreciated. As of now the Work Plan is out of sync with VSTS.

  • Hello,

The forum is for VSTO specific questions, not VSTS. VSTO stands for Visual Studio Tools for Office.

  • Hello dhalgren74,

This forum(Visual Studio Tools for Office) is for development issue related to VSTO and your issue is about VSTS.  You could choose other way to report a problem about VSTS according to the top thread in VSTS forum. For current thread, I will move it to Off-Topic  forum.

    Thanks for understanding,
