Befirst.to,
I would suggest opening a free WGA Service Request at https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?c1=509&gprid=9860.

Well that was useless, after entering the message the WGA service request page says:
An unknown application error occurred. Please try again in a few minutes.
I did
It said

And the reason we buy genuine software is for the supportigh:

Download and install the latest WGA tool: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=f8b8bc77-cfa1-47bd-b325-7a6d3893add8&DisplayLang=en
Afterward, restart your computer.

New version installed, no change, still using 99% of the CPU
Microsoft? Are you there? Plenty of helpful forum members but no company assistance - this is feeling like Linux but without the successful fixes.Sunday, July 15, 2007 7:46 PM -
befirst.to,
Just wondering what your status is.....let us know!

Befirst,
Thank you for posting. Curious did you receive an error code of any kind when you attempted to open a service ticket? If so please let us know. Did you retry to open a service ticket again and if so were you successful? Thankyou

Please try to open a support ticket from a different PC and let us know if you still receive the same error. Also where are you located at?

I posted the error message in the thread above, not specific error codes.
The current status is that the laptop this problem was occuring on is dead due to a power supply fault. Of course it could be stress due tot he CPU running at 99% all the time ;-)
