Office 2010 suddenly not genuine anymore RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

The hard disk of my computer crashed and I had to replace it.
I did a complete new installaton from scratch of Windows 7 and Office 2010.

Now Office 2010 Home & Student does not pass the genuine test anymore.
Windows 7 passes the test without any problem.

What can I do to repair this.
My Office 2010 is an absolutely legal one (boxed version bought from Amazon).

    Hi Noel

A couple of dayys after I re-installed my whole system (including Office 2010) on a new hard disk, I saw a popup message in the lower right corner of my screen (next to the system tray) telling me that was an issue with my Office 2010 not being genuine.
But that message went away, not leaving me enough time to actually read it completely.

I went to the "Genuine Microsoft Software" http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/default.aspx?displaylang=en
and I tested both Windows 7 and Office 2010.

    Windows 7 came out OK
But the test with Office 2010 resulted in the following:

    -----------------------------------------------------------
    Problem:
No Office products eligible for validation were found on this computer. This may be due to one of the following:

    • The version of Office installed on this computer is earlier than Office XP or later than Office 2007, and is therefore not eligible for validation.
    • There are currently no Office applications installed on this computer.
    • The version of Office you are using is hosted on another computer or a terminal server. Read more about this in the FAQ.

Solution: Purchase genuine Microsoft Office with a new computer, or from a retailer or software reseller near you. Learn more about how you can buy Microsoft Office.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

All my Office 2010 programs (Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, Word) tell me that they are activated when I check this via File/Help in each of them.

I just want to make sure that I am OK and that I will not run into troubles after a while (more messages, reduced functionality, or worse).

Thanks in advance for your help.

Office 2010 is (supposedly) self-validating - the validation site (and the MGADiag tool)  have not been updated to take account of this, and so do not display any details of Office 2010 products. (don't ask why - the Office team have always broken the rules without bothering to tell anyone).

Please expand on your statement 'does not pass the genuine test anymore' - Office 2010 is designed to be self-validating, and the Validation site doesn't actually recognise the presence of an Office 2010 install, as far as I am aware.

Please give EXACT error messages received, and under what circumstances.

If you mean that you were unable to activate Office 2010, then it may simply be that you need to use telephone activation.
