  • Remote login webpage issues - when I go to http://192.168.211 the URL returns the following address http://192.168.1.211/home/default.aspx?gotodefault=true and results in a

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

If I modify the URL to http://192.168.1.211/home/default.aspx then I get to the login screen, but when I click the login button the URL stays the same, and I'm presented with another

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

This is immediatly after a fresh re-install of the server software, due to me messing up the IIS and Webpage setting beyond repair via the Add/Remove Windows Components - GUI.

    Any thoughts?

FYI - My <server>.homeserver.com address returns the same results and using https://.... does not work at all.

  • Ok, problem solved

Woke up this morning to WHS telling me that it needed to install some updates, ran the updates which included update to .NET 3.0 framework and now I can login via web interface.  That's weird because I thought I'd run all of the updates yesterday, guess I needed to hit it one more time.

Thanks for the help and hopefully this helps someone else out.

  • Quick update.....I just used Andrew Grant's Whiist - Website Management Plugin tool to add a link to my web login page and it works.  So this narrows things down to 3 issues:

    1.  Why am I re-directed to http://<ip>/home/default.aspx?gotodefault=true ?

    2.  Why can't I log in?

    3.  Why doesn't https:// work at all?

  • Hi,

First when you go by your local ip lan for the whs server as this:

https://server_ip/home do you get to the home page and the login in the right in the page?

Do you try to login with a user/pass that in the WHS account, that user have "temote access" enable (the box should mark).

As in this: WHS console - user account tab and right click on user account and check the prop. for it.

Update: See this Link and maybe This could help.

    My best.

  • First, the WHS Remote Access website really isn't meant to be used from inside your premises. It's intended to give you some level of access to your digital "stuff" when you're away from home.

That said, browsing to my WHS, whether via IP address or machine name, works just fine at home. The initial redirection is to https://aaa.bbb.cc.dd/home/, however. It sounds to me like there's something still wrong with your IIS configuration.

When you did your reinstallation, how did you do it? Did you boot off the DVD, or did you insert the DVD and run setup from there?

  • I think all of you questions are answered in my first post...bottom line I don't get to a screen that asks for User & Password and when I go to https://server_ip/home it takes me to the can't find page as stated in my post.

    Thanks for the help.

  • Hi Ken,

In the past I've tested from inside my LAN, so I know it works flawlessly when it functions.

Yep, I did boot from the DVD to initiate the rebuild.

  • Hi,

I too am having the same issue.  I had to a reinstall as I upgraded the primary HD.  Now I get

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

Does anyone know where I can obtain the default site from? Perhaps this will fix the issue...

    Regards,

    James.

  • Hi I have the same issue, after server reinstall (corrupted c: partition). I reinstall WHS with all update, including PP2. Could you help me, please?

It works, if I switch off the remote access.

    Maybe an IIS configuration problem?

  • I disabled UPnP in my router and all seems to work. I'll make a new test tomorrow

  • Please try to resist the temptation to add a "me too!" to a very old post. In many cases, the issue that prompted the original post was specific to a particular user (the original poster) or even if it was an issue with Windows Home Server, that issue may have since been corrected. In this particular case, the original post was marked answered some 18 months ago.

The proper procedure is to create a new question in the forum, with details about your issue.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
