  • 70-526 is offered in C#. At the start of the exam you choose which language you want to do the exam in.

70-536 is offered in C#, VB.NET and Visual C++. Again you choose which language you want to do.

MS change the way the exams are offered. There is no longer a seperate exam number for each language now.

  • 70-526 is published  in April 27, 2006!
    70-536 is  published in March 21, 2008 !
So, you can know which exam is the latest one.
Previously ,they arenot the same exam .
and if  you pass both exams ,you can get

MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0 Windows Applications .
In my opinion ,no best exam.
The exams and certifications  on Microsoft Visual Studio and Microsoft .NET Framework technologies are many, not just MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0 Windows Applications .
The following certification are about visul studio

MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0 Web Applications

MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0 Windows Applications

MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0 Distributed Applications

MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ADO .NET Applications

MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ASP .NET Applications

MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 Windows Communication Foundation Applications

MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 Windows Forms Applications

MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 Windows Presentation Foundation Applications

MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5, Windows Workflow Foundation Applications

however ,if you pass 70-536 exams, you can choose one exam to get your best ceritificate.

  • They are different exams covering different topics.

70-526 is WinForms using .NET 2.0. Notice on the first page here what programming languages the exam is offered in! http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/Exam.aspx?ID=70-526&locale=en-us

70-536 is Application Development Foundations and is concerned with the under the hood topics of .NET. Since the CLR did not change for .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.5 this exam is valid for both versions

70-505 is WinForms using .NET 3.5

Now you need to have passed 70-536 to gain the MCTS in either.

    70-526 + 70-536 = MCTS Windows Applications Developer
    70-505 + 70-536 = MCTS Windows Applications Developer 3.5

You only need to pass 70-536 once for it to be valid and you need it to get your MCTS certification. Without it, you will not gain this credential!

  • Thank You all for helping!

    I'm using C# .Net 2 (VS2005) at work & experience - that would be 70-526?

Company only paying for one exam, doing 70-536 alone would give me MCTS certification?

    or must I do 70-526?

Please tell me which one getting good information on both but its confusing for me to decide on which one.

Apologies for trying to be to detail & annoying questions - I want to get the right and do the correct exam

    Thank You All

  • You will need both 70-526 and 70536 to get the MCTS Windows Applications Developer on .NET 2.0

It is the combination of the two exams that give you the MCTS
