W7 Ultimate will not activate anymore

    Question

  • On oct. 2nd I bought a W7 Ultimate key from the g2play.net site. I have installed it about 3-4 times and activation wasn't a problem until now.

Last week I installed it again, this time on a new SSD. I thought it was activated but now I got the message I needed to activate it.

When I try this, I get the message that the product key is blocked by Microsoft with the code 0xC004C003. Also activating by phone won't work. I was being told to go to www.microsoft.com/genuine to see if I was a victim of piracy. I downloaded and installed the validation software and clicked on validate windows which succeeded. But still I can't activate my windows, anyone got some ideas?

  • This key came from an MSDN/technet/bizspark account, according to it's license terms it was intended for Development/evaluation or small business purposes according to the program is was procured through. The person who sold you the key was not supposed to sell them, and it appears that the key was sold to more than one person and was activated enough for the key to become blocked, that or the account was closed due to possible abuse.

I have no idea what g2play.net is but I do know that the only place to buy product keys online for windows is the MS store, buying them from anywhere else puts you at risk for this exact scenerio.

    Sorry

  • Is there anywhere I can report this abuse? And hopefully get my money back?
    Saturday, April 17, 2010 3:00 PM
  • www.microsoft.com/howtotell, there should be a link for reporting piracy. As for getting your money back, you would need to address that with the vendor but I wouldn't hold out much hope. If you paid through Paypal or something similar, or by credit card you may be able to seek recourse but that depends on laws and regulations where you live.

Carl_OH is correct,  the Product Key, currently being used in your copy of Windows 7, is a Blocked key that orginated from an MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network) Subscription.

My Tool doesn't give me many details, but my assumption is that either the account, that this key is from, was broken into and it's keys stolen or the owner of the account is selling the keys (which is against the Licensing Terms for MSDN Subscriptions).

If at all possible, I recommend contacting the person or company that sold you this key/software (or who sold you the computer that had this software was installed in) and arrange to return the software (or computer) for a full refund.

Very sorry for the bad news,
