Windows Genuine Advantage discrepancy RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 that originally came with Windows Vista, which I did not like. So, I had my system downgraded to Windows XP Professional at a local computer repair shop. They also installed MS Office Pro. When they were finished they gave the the OS System disc as well as the MS Office DIsc; both of which I can tell they are the genuine items (complete with holograms). All of a sudden, I am getting a noticew that I do not have a genuine MS product. I still have the discs and the product licensing keys. How do I resolve this obvious error with the MGA validation.....ASAP!! and, without having to purchase windows 7 (which I DO NOT Want))

I apologize for taking so long to respond to the answer to my post.  I have been away from my computer for a long time due to illness. Below is the information that you have requested. The tech at the computer shop where I had the XP Pro installed assures me that it is a valid MS product and that the CoA is authentic.

  • Hello Keith53,

Do this in either the XP section of the forum OR the Office section of the forum:

In order to receive the best support, we request all users initially download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Click "Run" several times to download and start the Utility.  When asked, click the "Continue" button.  When the utility completes its run, click the "Copy" button, then come back here and paste the report into your post.

Also, please look on the computer for a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA).  If there is a CoA, please tell us what version and edition of Windows is listed on the CoA, and if there is a manufacturer's name or "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" printed on the CoA.  Do not post the product key printed on the CoA.
