  • Question

  • hi

My desktop application has about 35 component(when I say component, each component is a different VB6 project) . I fixed a production issue in one of the component out of that 35 component. Now i have to give the user a service pack to install with only changed ocx file. how can I create installer to include only changed ocx file? I know I can create using visual studio but forgot do the same.

  • I normally just update the entire project for an update, including the version number of the application.

Do you have 35 different apps or one app project with 35 things?

Just add the new component to the MSI setup project (as it was before but new file) and make it an upgrade. You use the same previous upgrade  code and change the product code and application version for the new update installer package.

If you don't do that you are up against security things as you don't have permissions to overwrite common files.

PS Once again this is the .net forum not the vb6 or .msi forum.

  • Since this is a VB 6 related question I would recommend posting your question to the below forum:

  • There is an installer project that was in prior versions of Visual Studio. You would need to download and install it for VS 2015.

My understanding was that you were looking for an MSI installer for VB 6.0 and not .NET.
