Live Mesh and Windows Search 4.0 on Windows XP crashes explorer.exe

Question
-
I've got Live Mesh running on Vista Home Premium, XP Home and XP Professional. I've updated Windows Search on all three machines.
When I use Windows Search on the XP machines, I get results, and then explorer.exe immediately crashes.
When I use Windows Search on the Vista machine, all is good.
Any ideas?Friday, August 29, 2008 4:17 PM

It may be worthwhile to mention that if I limit searches to something that exclude searching through the file system (for example, email) then explorer.exe does not crash.Friday, August 29, 2008 11:58 PM

I just tried to use Connect to file a bug, but Live Mesh is not listed as one of my connections. I attempted to add it, but Connect wants me to sign up for the Live Mesh Tech Preview, even though I'm already in.
Is there another way for me to submit this bug? Windows Search has hijacked all of my search capabilities, and I see that I can't uninstall Live Mesh. File searches on my XP machines are completely broken right now.
Edit: I have verified that the Windows Live ID I used to sign into Connect is the same one I use for Live Mesh.
Edit 2: I re-read that post and saw an email address to send bugs to, so I sent a description and the logs. If I get a response I'll post it here.

Hi Will,
We'd be happy to give you access to the Live Mesh Connect site. Please send your Live ID to lmprev@microsoft.com and request access to Connect. You should receive a confirmation email once you've been added, and then you'll be able to submit any future bugs through Connect.
Thanks,

Tim (presumably from the Live Mesh team) got back to me and let me know that this is a known issue and it is being worked on.
I'm surprised that more people haven't come across it. Are most Live Mesh users also Vista users? Or is it that XP users are happy with the built-in search tool and see no need to update to Windows Search 4.0?
Anyhow, I'll post a response if my issue is fixed.

Most like myself might have just disabled Windows search becase of its amazing resource hog issues it has displayed...
I would love to just be able to uninstall it....Friday, September 12, 2008 5:05 AM -
I've seen this as well - I just didn't realize it was because of LM that the Explorer.exe crashes were occurring.

I have got the exact problem here!
Live Mesh + Windows Search 4.0 = XP's explorer.exe crashes
When I use Windows Search on the XP machines, I got the results, and then explorer.exe crashes immediately when I close the Windows Search 4.0 windows *with results*.
When I just open and then close the Windows Search 4.0 windows without doing any search, explorer.exe won't crash.

Same behavior here. Live Mesh with Windows Search 4.0 AND the older version of Desktop Search causes XP Explorer to crash.
First thing I did was upgrade to v4.0, but that did not fix the problem.
Next, I un-installed Live Mesh and that did fix the problemFriday, September 26, 2008 12:18 PM
