Unable to add 2nd PC to subcription RRS feed

  • Question

  •

I wish to add a 2nd PC to my Onecare subscription.  When I click the subscription button, it launches a new window, 'Step 1: Sign In"

The windows live ID in the 'Step 1: Sign In' window is incorrect (somehow my Hotmail ID is present) and I am unable to remove or edit the incorrect ID.  I did link my Live account to my Hotmail account but I still am unable to add the 2nd PC to my subscription.

    Thanks,
    Chad

  • If you had the trial version installed on PC and used a different LiveID to configure it, you cannot change the LiveID at activation due to a bug in the software right now. You will need to uninstall the copy of OneCare on that PC and reinstall from http://onecare.live.com in order to activate with the correct LiveID for your subscription.

I don't know what you mean by linking your Live account to the Hotmail account, but if you go to PC number 1, where OneCare is activated, open OneCare, click Help and About to see the subscription LiveID.

  • I have a store bought version.  I am not using a trial version.

When you log in to 'Windows Live' and select 'Account Summary', there is an option to 'Link Windows Live IDs'.  I was hoping by linking my @Hotmail account to my @Live account that I would be able to activate Onecar by using the @Hotmail ID since @Hotmail is for some reason stuck in the subscription popup.

  • No, the only ID you will be able to use is the original LiveID for your subscription. The Linking of IDs is a nice new feature that allows you to switch between IDs for certain services such as Windows Live Hotmail, Spaces, etc.

No, if your activation login field shows the other ID incorrectly, you can't change it and it won't let you activate since your subscription is associated with a different LiveID. The bug will be fixed in a future update, but for now, you'll need to reinstall to get the ability to put in the correct LiveID.
