Cannot activate Windows Vista after purchasing Windows Genuine Advantage Kit

Question
-
Hello,
I recently discovered that the copy of windows on my computer wasn't genuine. I follwed the onscreen instructions and purchased the Windows Genuine Advantage Kit and entered the new product key that was sent to me after purchase. Windows worked fine after that but after a few reboots the "Windows needs to be activated" screen started appearing.
The problem is that when I try to activate windows, it tells me that "This copy of windows is not genuine" and only gives me the option "Go online and resolve now" which brings me back to the page where I purchased the Windows Genuine Advantage Kit.
How do I activate windows in this situation? Is it possible that I made a typo when entering the new product key?

Hello kscheyer,
Below are alternate steps to bring up the Activate by Phone wizard. Please give this a try, but if you still have problems, please see the 'Install, Upgrade and Activate' section of the Vista Answers Forum http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsvista
To Activate by Phone:a) If you have access to the Start button: Click the Start button, and type slui 4 in the search field and then press the "Enter" key. This will bring up the Activate by Phone dialog window. Follow the steps provided by the window. The phone activation process should only take about 6 minutes.
b) If you do not have access to the Start button: Reboot and login to Vista, a dialog window will come up. In that window, click the option "Access computer with reduced functionality". Once you do that, Internet Explorer or Firefox browser will open. In the address bar type c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe press enter, a new window will come up, type: slui 4 and hit enter and follow steps to Activate over the Phone.
Thank you,

Hello Darin,
that doesn't work either. Running slui 4 just brings up the "This copy of windows is not genuine" message.
Anyway, the problem is fixed now. What I did was reset the activation timer so I would have 30 more days to activate. After a reboot I had 30 days left to activate but tried to activate again anyway and this time it activated online without a problem. Very wierd.
Cheers
