New to Sync Toy and have a problem understanding the flow RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have 300 music tracks at work and about 1,700 at home. I want to sync these together so they will be the same 2,000 at each location.  I synced the 300 at work to a portable USB drive, took that home hoping to add those to the 1,700 at home. Instead I wound up with the 1,700 at home added to the USB drive and the 300 on the USB drive wound up replacinig what I had on the home drive. So I now have 2,000 on the usb drive and 300 that were on the work drive on the home drive. It's like they swapped out instead of combining. I made only one sync run at each location.  Using the "synchronize" setting on Sync toy 2.  What did I do wrong?

  • Hi audioeditor,

I am trying to repro your problem:
     1. You had installed SyncToy 2.0 on both your PC at work place and another PC at home.
     2. You synced music folder on your work PC with your USB driver. Now both your work PC and USB driver have 300 music tracks.
     3. You then synced the USB driver with your music folder at home, and expecting both your home PC and USB driver have 2,000 music tracks. But you found the result that 2,000 in your USB driver but 300 in your home PC (The original 1,700 at home disappeared).
     4. You were using “Synchronization” mode in both sync sessions.
Did I describe the right scenario you are facing?

And would you like to tell me what is the size and format of these music tracks, please?

    Thanks

  • They are just the normal itunes music files. I believe the purchased files are .acc and the personal files are mp3's that I have added from my own CDs.

  • Hi audioeditor,

I tried, but I cannot repro your problem successfully. Maybe I misunderstood you scenario. Would you please confirm if my repro steps in my previous post described your problem correctly?

SyncToy should work with the files you were trying to sync. I have never seen such problem before and I cannot repro your problem on my machines yet. So for now, I cannot give any advice except trying the latest version, SyncToy 2.1. It fixed many bugs in previous version. Please backup your music file somewhere else before your try, or you can do some tests with some other folders. (You may need to be careful about copyright related files which are not “pleased” to be copied)

We will need more information to know what cause the problem, if SyncToy 2.1 cannot resolve your problem.

    Thanks
