  • Unfortunately, your Dell Dimension 8300 was manufactured way back in the year 2003 which is four (4) years before Windows Vista was released.  Your computer is therefore not licensed for the Dell OEM SLP version of Windows Vista that is currently installed.  You can either reformat the hard drive and reinstall the original Windows XP Home edition that originally came with that computer using a Dell Windows XP Home Edition Reinstallation disc, or you can purchase a "full version" of Windows 7 and perform a "clean install".

  • Just some extra information.

Carey's answer is correct because an OEM SLP version of Windows only come pre-installed (and can only run) on computers from the factory and since your computer was built before Windows Vista was released, an OEM SLP version of Vista did not come pre-installed on that computer and would not be able to run on that computer.

    Thank you,
