  • Ali26,

Right now your HP Pavilion computer has a "hacked and cracked" installation of XP Media Center Edition, and this installation was done with an Invalid Product Key.  MS most likely invalidated the key because it was generated by a non-MS Key Generator program, which seems to be the situation in your case.

Furthermore, if you search the forum for the part of the Product Key reported by the mgadiag utility, 9MT6X-PGKC8-J4JTM, you will see that over a dozen other posters have also been victims of that particular Keygen key.

Also, the report is showing that you have a "retail" installation (license type) of Media Center.

Windows License Type: Retail                  Windows OS version: 5.1.2600.2.00010100.2.0.med

The problem with that is there is no such thing as a Retail license for Media Center (IOW they are not offered for sale in retail packaging that you would find at a major electronics retailer).  Genuine copies would have shown up in the report as either "systembuilder/OEM" or "OEM SLP."  That is why I call it "hacked and cracked."  As I understand it, this is the result of installing a crack available on the internet that adds Media Center functionality to a non-Media Center installation of XP.

The mgadiag utility is reporting that your computer is an HP Pavilion computer.  The solution to your current problem is to use the Recovery Solution provided by HP with the computer to put the original shipping Windows XP Operating System back onto the computer.  Typically the Recovery solution is a hidden recovery partition on the hard disk drive, or a set of Recovery CDs/DVDs.  Typically, the Recovery solution erases all user data on the hard disk drive, so please be sure to backup and offload any valuable data before you run the Recovery.  You will want to review the documentation for your exact model of Pavilion before you do the Recovery.

The Product Key Updater utility is not designed to work with XP Media Center Edition or Tablet Edition so that is not an option for your circumstances.

Finally, all of the Office products (Office 2003 Pro, One Note 2003, and Front Page 2003) on your computer are showing as nongenuine installations.  If this comes as a surprise to you, please return to the place of purchase and demand the genuine software you paid for, or a refund.  Please remove these nongenuine installations of Office as soon as possible.
