MS Money Plus backup fails RRS feed

  • Question

  • MS Money Plus 17.0.150.3817  backup fails with Windows 10

    A 10 years old file about 14 MB size still works perfectly. A new file 4 MB started two years ago for a different currency fails to backup.

  • I think you are saying that the 2-year old file works until you exit and it fails during the backup. As you exit, Money either crashes, it gives an error message, or it appears to do the backup, but no backup is found.

    Two areas come to mind. One is a file repair of you *.mny file , and the other is backup  settings. Now the backup settings appeared to be OK, but it would be good to revisit those:

       ==========repair===============

    First try File->RepairMoneyFile->QuickFileRepair

    If not fixed, try File->RepairMoneyFile->StandardFileRepair level 2.

    Then do   File->RepairMoneyFile->QuickFileRepair  on the repaired file again.

      ===For the backup settings ============

    In M+: Tools->Settings->BackupSettings
    I suggest checking
     x Automatically backup my Money file every time I close Money
      Save in [a place on your hard drive and give the file a unique root name]. It is best to Browse to
         a location rather than typing the path.
       x Ask me before backing up each time*
       x Compress Backup Files
       Keep only the _10_most recent backup files [adjust to taste]

     x Perform scheduled backups every _14_ days
      Save in [a USB flash drive location]
       x Ask me before backing up each time*
       x Compress Backup Files
       Keep only the _2_most recent backup files [adjust to taste]

    Then periodically, perhaps each month or three, copy your latest
    backup (uniquely named by Money) to a CDR or other backup media.

    * The reason I have Money ask me, is that I don't want to back up
    each time I exit.  If I went into Money 5 times in a day, I would
    not want to back up 5 times, nor would I want to delete 5 other
    backup files.  You will be given the choice to BackUpNow or to
    Postpone.
