My w7 version is not genuine when it first was. RRS feed

    hello, I bought the upgrade version of W7 home premium and used it to upgrade from XP Home. This worked fine untill something in the pc went wrong and I had to reinstall. I forgot to install XP first and went with W7 straight ahead, installed all my programs ect only to find out w7 needs activation and it wanted a full version for a clean install. I worked around this by using the activate by phone option and that worked perfectly for months untill an hour ago when the message popped up that my version is not genuine. I tried activating again by phone but I dont get the option anymore..     Well i reset the activation process by opening an elevated CMD and typing slmgr -rearm. First I tried to activate the key by making a phone call to that automated activation thing where you have to type in 10 blocks of 6 numbers, but it said there was an error and i had to request a new key in the "change product key" wizard.. but there isnt an option to do so, so that path ends there. I then tried to activate my product key by typing in slmgr -ipk XXXXXXXXXXXXXX where x is ofcourse the product key, but i get a pop up saying the activation server blocked my product key.. Why did it do that? I bought my w7 upgrade from a very well known store here in the netherlands (Dixons) and there is practically no way it is an MSDN key. Please help :(

     Validation Code: 0xc004c4a2 

    this code indicates a blocked product key. It does not appear to be a typical blocked MSDN key.

    You will likely have to wait for Darin to look at it. (he works Redmond hours)

    Your problem is that the Key in use here is the Default (Keyless install) Key - you need to change the Key to the one that is either in your Windows pack or on the COA sticker on your PC.

    Please post a new MGADiag report - but I suspect that the problem is that you upgraded using the Default Key, and now the Upgrade key cannot be used to activate the system because it thinks it's a clean install.
    You need to activate by Telephone, and explain the problem to the operator - they will assist.
     
    telephone activation.
     Click on the Start button
    in the Search box, type
    SLUI   4
    and hit the Enter key
    follow the instructions - but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you.

    This *is* the key that's on that sticker, which btw is on some paper card in the plastic box where the CD's are also in :). And just to ease my nerves, will "darin" be able to unblock my key? I can provide my windows xp key, my w7 key ofcourse, i still have the original papers that came with XP and also W7, so i can make pictures if he wants them as proof.

    oops! read right by the default key the first time. You still have the default key installed. This key will never activate and will never be unblocked.

    This *is* the key that's on that sticker,

    This key will never be on a legitimate windows proof of license label.

    Oh crap you're right. But then when i enter the key thats on that sticker it says the given product code can only be used for upgrades and not for a new installation. So as I said in my OP i worked around that by activating by phone, that worked fine untill yesterday where I suddenly got the pop-up in the bottom right corner saying my windows copy is not genuine. I tried doing that again by typing slui.exe 4 in start, following instructions and then the voice says this: An error has occurded, this can likely be solved by changing your product key.

    You will first have to change your product key to the one on your sticker.

    Then you will have to activate by phone per Noel's instructions. Make sure you don't respond to any of the prompts in order to get a real person. Then explain your situation to the call rep.

    Ok, first chance i will have to do that is hopefully wednesday when i hopefully have a day off from work. Will the telephone operator be able to activate my key or is there a big chance i have to go out and buy a full version ?

    They should be able to do it (and most lines are 24/7, so you don't have to wait for a day off<g>)

    Well i tried that and still says thesame, only during daytime working hours 8 am 6 pm.. sigh i didn't expected anything else here tho.. customer support in this country is horrible on almost everything you can imagine.. BTW I finally gave up and tried to reinstall everything after making backups.. but really awesome how XP won't install on my SSD because its saying its corrupt. So I went ahead and gave installing W7 a try making sure I didn't enter my product key then but only activate later. Same problem, calling the computer and entering the 9 blocks of 6 digits.. invalid key. Using the built in activation thingy, invalid key >_> I just hope i can get a day off somewhere in the next 29 days because tomorrow aint happening.. dammit Edit2 a new mgadiag report if it helps..     Well i tried that and still says thesame, only during daytime working hours 8 am 6 pm.. sigh i didn't expected anything else here tho.. customer support in this country is horrible on almost everything you can imagine.. BTW I finally gave up and tried to reinstall everything after making backups.. but really awesome how XP won't install on my SSD because its saying its corrupt. So I went ahead and gave installing W7 a try making sure I didn't enter my product key then but only activate later. Same problem, calling the computer and entering the 9 blocks of 6 digits.. invalid key. Using the built in activation thingy, invalid key >_> I just hope i can get a day off somewhere in the next 29 days because tomorrow aint happening.. dammit Edit2 a new mgadiag report if it helps..     Your Product Key is 5 blocks of 5 characters - your Product ID is a total of 20 characters - your Confirmation ID for activation purposes is 54 characters.  NEVER get them confused, or all heck lets loose :)
     
    The Key in the above report is the Default Key for Windows 7 Home Premium - you need to enter your OWN Key, using the Change Product Key link in System Properties - and then activate by telephone.

    When I enter the product key thats in the plastic box I get a message saying it is a w7 update product key (which it is) and I need a full version key in order to activate since I installed the full version of w7 instead of upgrading from any other. I couldn't upgrade from my old XP windows because it wont allow me to install on my Solid state drive, because its saying the volume is corrupt. I hope to make the call tomorrow.. Edit: Isnt there a way to force w7 to take the key thats on my box? Because then if the product ID changes I'll be able to activate normally online.

    That would figure - there is however another option.
    Do an Upgrade install on the system as it now is - it should take the Upgrade Key at that point (during the installation), and complete normally, and activate over the internet.

    Can't use the upgrade install as i get the following error: The current version is newer then the version you are trying to upgrade to. I'll try removing all the windows upgrades and see what it then says..

    You'll have to uninstall SP1, in all probability.
