SyncToy deletes copied files RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have Vista Ultimate 64-bit and SyncToy 2.0.

When it copies files to a NAS running Linux it creates file in the form FSP-{XXX}.tmp and then it deletes it after the copy is done. This repeats for all files that it copies. The current NAS is D-Link DNS-321 and the other one is a regular SuSe Linux machine.

Regular copying in Vista works great as well as FTP or CIFS (SAMBA).

It looks like file rename is failing, which is the case in explorer as well. Is it Vista issue or some parameter should be changed on NAS.

    Any ideas are appreacited.

  • When the files are downloaded to a remote location, we copy them over as temporary files and then rename the file to its correct name. Irrespective of whether the rename fails or succeeds we delete the temporary file. If it fails in Explorer as well, then that is definitely the reason SyncToy is unable to sync the files.  I am not sure if it is a Vista or a NAS issue - you would be better served posting to a different forum - perhaps the Vista forum?

    Thanks
