Another Ebay activation key problem, Windows 7 Ultimate Key.

Question
-
Hello Folks, this is my first posting on this forum. Unfortunately it's another purchased activation key problem bought off Ebay ( Windows 7 Ultimate Activation Key). I purchased a " Genuine" Microsoft Activation key off Ebay from a seller in Germany that swears it's Genuine and has passed the PDIX test. I installed in on another computer I have and it came up as invalid and was blocked by the MS activation process. I contacted the seller and he sent me another Windows 7 activation key and installed in on the computer and this time is passed the validation process and the computer is now OK and has done updates and everything seems OK. My question is if this Windows 7 actvation number is legitimate or is it going to de-activate in a couple of weeks. I downloaded the MGADIAG.EXE program and the results are below. I would greatly appreciate your profession opinion as to it's validity.
Many Thanks in advance!----Lorne.

From your MGA report:
Windows Product ID: 00426-067-8629287-86565
See: Blocked Keys and Purchasing Genuine Microsoft Software
Unfortunately, the installed product key is indeed a not-for-resale MSDN product key. It may pass the WGA test today, but it's highly likely it will soon be classified as "non-genuine" in the not-too-distant future. You should demand a 100% refund, then purchase your software from a reliable, trusted source such as the Microsoft Store.
Unfortunately, auction web sites such as eBay have, time and time again, proven to be unreliable sources of "genuine" Microsoft software.

Hello Carey,
Thank you for the reply and the info. It was as I suspected, another scam off Ebay. I should have known better after the first number he sent me was rejected by the MS validation process... I'll go the retail route and get a genuine copy and pay the retail price. The Ebay seller sold a number of these in the last couple of months, I imagine the other buyers will be getting a surprise in the next few months also.
Thanks again for you help.-----Lorne.

HelloCarey,I'd also like to let the other folks know that they will run into trouble with PayPal in this situation also. In order to get your money back from PayPal for intangible items such as downloads and activation keys via email, they require 3rd party documentation faxed to them directly as evidence to get a refund and do not accept other forms of communication as evidence. Web site posts such as this forum are excluded as evidence also. So I'll repeat your good advice to everyone out there to not buy activation keys off auction web sites unless you want to lose your money.
I got a refund from PayPal but they did it as a " courtesy refund " because I've been with PayPal since the beginning, they weren't going to refund the money for the auction because of my lack of evidence of the fraudulent software, in spite of my showing them pics of my computer with the blocked key response from the validation process.
Thanks again for your help!----Lorne.

Did you refer them to the thread with your MGADiag report? I believe that they have taken that as evidence before.Note that the 'courtesy refund' is a legal getaround - they can deny responsibility, while still giving you the money back, and saying to everyone else exactly what they told you, and avoids having to make blanket repayments for fraudulent activity. It means that the less persistent ones don't get their money back :(

Hello Noel,
Yes I did send them a link to the replies in this forum and they stated that they couldn't accept this as expert response and would only accept 3rd party " expert" testimony sent via fax to them directly.... go figure huh! The supervisor that I talked to on the phone claimed that they were not able to go outside their network to get information off the internet. I figure they were " blowing smoke" through the phone. This is the typical response anyone gets from PayPal now, they'll do anything to get rid of you and not refund your money unless you used a credit card and file a chargeback. I used an e-check and so wasn't able to file a charge-back. It's funny that the ebay seller in Germany that sold me the fraudulent activation key has suddenly disappeared and wouldn't even respond to my PayPal dispute. PayPal and ebay both need to start getting rid of foreign sellers that continue to sell fraudulent Microsoft software.
I appreciate your input and help!----Lorne.

Well, I do not work for Microsoft and my response is a "3rd party expert response". As with all software pirates and counterfeiters, their expected first line of defense is to deny, confuse and lie!

Carey FrischHi Carey,
Yep, another example of how PayPal and Ebay just want to keep your money no matter what! Just as you stated, the Windows 7 key has become invalid a couple of days ago and it's now been blocked by MS. I left the Win 7 OS on the spare computer to see how long it would take MS to invalid it and it did after about 30 days, just as you forecasted. I'm now looking around to get the best price on a Genuine MS Win 7. I hope that this posting may help others that are thinking of buying Windows Activation Keys off Ebay and other online sites---- Caveat Emptor.
Thanks Again----Lorne.
