ribbon workbench question RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, I'm trying to add a ribbon button for the following scenario:

    1. User selects Cases in left nav area.
    2. User selects a case in the Cases list view on the right-hand side by checking the checkbox to the left of the case number.
    3. CRM displays MyButton in the ribbon.

In RWB I added a button to the Incident > SubGrid view. This particular implementation doesn't seem to support the use case I described above.  Instead, the button displays for the following use case:

    1. User opens Case.
    2. User selects Children from left nav area.
    3. CRM displays MyButton in the ribbon.

So what do I need to do differently to in order to achieve the first use case and avoid the second use case?

  • You will need to have the button added to the ribbon, make it not visible, and change it to visible only when the record is selected. You can do all this through scripting.

I am assuming from what you describe that this is in CRM 2011.

  • Hi!

It sounds like you need to add your button to the homepage ribbon and not the sub-grid ribbon. The Home page ribbon is the one that is shown when the entity is selected outside of a particular parent record context.

    Hope this helps,
