One Care not allowing RDP outbound from machine RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hi there..I wonder if anyone can help.

I am providing support to a home PC that has One Care installed as its firewall. The machine needs to be able to RDP outbound to a terminal services solution.

When intialising the RDP connection one Care asked if I wanted to allow this connectivity...this was then set to always allow. Remote Desktop appears in the allowed programme list and Remote desktop is ticked in the ports and protocols list for both from local network subnet and from subnet and internet. The PC's location is also set as home or work, so private. Even with these settings I try to RDP but receive a, "this computer can't connect to the remote computer" message.

If I temporarily turn off One Care's firewall and then try RDP to the same address...Voila it works perfectly.

Any advice would be much appreciated please.

It appears that even though One Care is configured to allow RDP out it is still blocking it somewhere along the line.

We are running Windows Vista Home Premium service pack 2!

    Thanks Mike

    Open OneCare
    Click Change Settings

On the firewall tab, click configure firewall

If the network is shown as Public, click Change Location to change it to "Home or Work."

    Click the Advanced Settings button

    Click Network connections tab.

If there are multiple active connections shown, you may need to disable the extras in your Windows network connections settings. (Network and Sharing Center, manage connections, in Vista; Right click My Network Places and select Properties on the Start menu in XP)

On the Ports and Protocols tab, add a check mark next to the Remote Desktop entries (I don't have OneCare on the machine I'm at today, so I forget if there are two entries or one selection - I suspect that there are two, with the second being for subnet and Internet)

If all of the above fail, please contact support.
