NTFS conversion failed message

  My old drive is full, purchased a newWD250GB Passport drive. I change my backup Config from F drive to the new G drive, when I try to save, it wants to convert backup device to NTFS, I select OK and I get a Conversion failed message and it goes back to the F drive?
