Mappoint 2011 - Mapping from longitude and latitude data RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to map a load of data, but only have the longitude and latitude.   I have set those columns to be recognised, but none of the data is being matched.  This is an example of the data.  What am I doing wrong?

    Latitude Longitude
    484750 216030
    486282 224773
    496436.1 191006.4

  • MapPoint works with geographic decimal degrees to the WGS84 geoid.

For example:  Longitude -93.4512;  Latitude 34.5678

Your coordinates are not longitude, latitude coordinates specified in decimal degrees.

Are thy UTM coordinates?  (which aren't longitude, latitude, btw) or are you using an unusual unit system?

  • What part of the world are these coordinates? Can you figure out what the lat/lon coordinates are by hovering your mouse over the location in MapPoint? The lat/lon are displayed on the lower left. Note that for the U.S., the Longitude is 70W to about 120W, but these are normally recorded as negative e.g. -70.0 and -120.0
