Windows updates and genuine Windows issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • I get the message "Windows update cannot currently check for updates, becasue the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." when I try and check for windows updates. The Windows update service is running. Also if I change to never check for Windows updates and exit the setting reverts to always check for updates. The PC is an Acer with the Windows 7 Pro that came with it, it says activated in the properties of My Computer and yet I get a popup daily that says it is not genuine. I have tried, checking for spyware with Malwarebytes, Hijackthis, Ms Security Essentials, Avast etc and it finds nothing. I have followed numerous posts about resetting the activation, updating Windows Defender etc with no luck. Windows defender service is running but the program fails to run.

Before I reload the system from scratch does anyone have any other ideas how to fix this?

  • To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
     Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
      - **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

  • This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers

try downloading and installing them from here - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=21730

    (you want the iata_enu.exe download)

Once complete please reboot twice, validate at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate uisng Internet Explorer,  then post another MGADiag report.
